Below about two hundred metres, sunlight runs out, and most of the animals living there make their own. Comb jellies run rainbows down their sides as their rows of tiny paddles catch the light. Siphonophores, long colonies that live as one animal, drift like strings of lanterns. Lanternfish wear dots of light along their bellies so that, seen from below, they disappear against the last glow from above. And the anglerfish hangs a lure of light in front of her mouth and waits.
Made after watching a documentary about the deep. In the film, a lot of the frames are simply black. That felt honest, so this page starts that way too.
