Hum

A hive from midnight to sunrise. Drag the light. At night the colony rests and hums low; as the sun comes up the foragers go out and the note rises and brightens.

night dawn

A honeybee's wings beat about 230 times a second, which is where a hive's hum comes from. A resting colony at night sits a little lower and softer; a busy one in daylight is louder and rougher, with more bees fanning and flying. The exact numbers here are my guess at how it might sound to stand beside it.
